- Best in Hand Hygiene
This category shall focus on a comprehensive hand hygiene program in healthcare facilities. It will put emphasis on innovative and creative strategies to improve hand hygiene compliance. Participants should be able to describe infrastructures, educational programs, impact evaluation tools for assessment and actual accomplishments of the program within the year.
- Best in Antimicrobial Stewardship
This category shall evaluate the effort and accomplishments of institutions in promoting the rational use of antibiotics. Interdisciplinary coordination with the administration, clinical staff, laboratory and pharmacy should be described. Activities within the year to educate clinicians in the proper use of antibiotics, monitor consumption, antibiotic resistance and reporting of impact evaluation are necessary to win this category.
- Best in Environmental Cleaning and Decontamination
This category will look into how facilities make their environments "hospital" clean in an cost-efficient and environmentally friendly manner within the year.
- Best in Management of Infection Prevention Among Healthcare Workers
This category shall evaluate how institutions reduce and manage the occupational risks to its healthcare workers and make their facilities a safer workplace for all.
- Best in Outbreak Prevention and Management
This category shall focus on how healthcare facilities ensure that the chain within the year of infection is broken within their own setting. Participants should be able to describe preventive measures undertaken including application of isolation and transmission-based precautions. In case of an outbreak, implementation of timely, systematic, appropriate, innovative and effective remedial interventions shall be evaluated and the outcomes of such shall be clearly described. This also includes readiness of institutions to handle emerging infections considering the routes of disease transmission and corresponding precautions to avoid outbreaks in the institution and the community.
- Best in Healthcare Waste-Management
This category will evaluate how hospitals are able to comply with health waste management regulations in a cost efficient and environmentally friendly way within the year.
- Best in Infection Prevention and Control Innovation
This category shall focus on a single, specific program implemented by an institution within the year to address a specific challenge encountered or area in the field of infection prevention and control. The participant should highlight the novelty, innovativeness and creativity, cost-effectiveness and positive outcome of such an intervention to win this category.
PRIZES

- Certificate of Participation will be given to all healthcare facilities.
- Certificate of recognition will be given to Infection Control Practitioner of participating healthcare facilities.
ELIGIBILITY
- A hospital must be a member of good standing of PHA.
- It must have a functioning Infection Control Committee (ICC) for at least one year.
-Attach copy of the Infection Prevention and Control Program.

MECHANICS
- Interested Infection Control Committees whose healthcare facilities meet the eligibility criteria may apply into the contest by completing the application form may be downloaded from the websites of the Philippine Hospital Association (PHA), Private Hospital Association of the Philippines Inc. (PHAPI), Philippine College of Hospital Administrators (PCHA), Philippine Hospital Infection control Society (PHICS) and the Association of Hospital Administrators (AHA) The PHA will also be sending letters of invitation to all its member hospitals by mail and email. The hard copy of the application form may also be requested from any Phicna representative.
- In the application form, tick the appropriate category of your health facility.
- With the application form, submit an essay of not more than three (3) pages describing your facility's Infection Prevention and Control program and should include but not limited to your specific programs in hand hygiene, stewardship antimicrobial, environmental cleaning and decontamination, management of infection prevention among healthcare workers, outbreak prevention and management, healthcare waste-management.
- Write your essays in a comprehensive, direct and accurate manner.
- Describe strategies on how you have prevented and/or controlled healthcare associated infections. Show impact or outcome measurements.
- Summary tables, graphs and photos can be attached as annex and need not be part of the 3-page limit
- Include the following information:
- Overview of the institution
- Background/ Pre-program Status specific to the institution
- Infection Control Program Organization
- Program Scope and Objectives
- Educational programs/ trainings conducted in the last two years
- Five most important strategies/innovations implemented in the last two years
- Compliance monitoring/ program surveillance
- Outcome measures/ evidence of success
- Please use “narrow” margin, font size 11, single-space, printed in 8 ½ x 11 bond paper (3 hard copies)
- Video and other multimedia support, records and pictures (for visual support) pertaining to the experiences ARE ENCOURAGED and must be submitted with the form and authenticated by the Medical Director/ Chief of Hospital/ Hospital Administrator or an authorized representative.
- Facilities who would like to join the special awards only can use the same format and choose which category they want to join.
Best Infection Control Nurses
- One each by hospital level ( 3,2,1,PCF)
- One for government hospital and one for private hospital
- it will be a self -nomination with endorsement from the Chair of the hospital infection control committee, Hospital Administrator or Medical Director or Chief of Hospital.
- a maximum of 2 nurses to be nominated per hospital
Eligibility Criteria :
- At least 3 years of experience as ICN in the same facility/hospital
- With relevant training in infection control in the past 3 years
- Attendance to PHICNA Basic Training Course ( BTC) within the past 5 years
- No age restriction
- With good moral standing
The 100-seconds Jingle-Writing Contest Mechanics
Competition Rules and Guidelines
- The Theme should revolve around Prevention or Management of Hospital Associated Infections.
- Musical style is pop, rock or rap, and upbeat;
- Lyrics must be catchy for easy recall.
- Only Filipino amateur composers, aged 18-35 years old, and affiliated with participating health facilities may submit entries.
- All Board members and employees of the Philippine Hospital Association are not qualified to join the Competition.
Criteria for Judging
- Originality (15%)- cool and chill sound, peculiar style to jingle-writing;
- Musical Content (40%)- harmony, recall;
- Lyrical Content (35%)- clever and inventive;
- Overall Impact (10%) - based on Facebook likes.
Entry & Submission Rules
- A jingle entry may be written in modern genre;
- The duration of each entry should not exceed 100 seconds and can be abbreviated to less than 30 seconds;
- The jingle lyrics may be in English or Tagalog or Taglish;
- Must be entirely original and must not infringe upon any copyrights or rights of any third parties (no sampling or plagiarism);
- Upon submission of entry, contestant grants PHA and partner societies full permission of the song for official use.
- Participating health facilities may enter only one (1) jingle compositions;
- The deadline for submission (via email to the HBPIPC official email address at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.) and uploading of entries at the official Facebook account --Hospital Best Practices In Infection Prevention and Control-- on or before August 17, 2018, Friday.
- A printed copy of the lyrics must be attached to the entry form
Rules for Disqualification
- An entry must not have been published or circulated through the internet or any other medium prior to this contest;
- It must not have been previously recorded for any purpose or performed live in any medium.
Requirements for Submission
- The entry form shall be downloaded from the official website of the Philippine Hospital Association;
- There should be one (1) form for each entry;
- The video file of the jingle entry must be in standard uploadable and downloadable format, bearing the Title. Must be in MP3,MP4, or M4A
- There should be one (1) video file per entry;
- The lyrics should be submitted in Word file format and must include the name(s) of the participating health facility, composer and/or lyricist.
- Winning entries agree to perform live during the awards ceremony.
